Bismarck-Mandan VR Panoramas

These VR panoramas are among my first in shooting and preparing 360 degree panoramic images. Don't expect much in terms of photographic composition, lighting and complete seamlessness of the VR images.

You'll need the QuickTime player or VR plug-ins (you probably already have them installed), which are available for free from the Adobe website.

Simply click on any of the photo strips below. A pop-up window will open that, in a few moments, will be filled with the panoramic image. To move around the images, simply put your pointer over the image, then click and drag in any direction -- the scene will shift accordingly. It's like standing in one location and looking out as you turn in a complete circle.

The plus and minus buttons allow you to zoom in and out of the image.

ND Capitol Building and grounds
Bismarck, ND

April 17, 2002 * 3:08 p.m.
The state capitol is in the background and the long capitol grounds is in the foreground. The view is far more impressive in the summer when the grass is green and the flower beds are blooming.

Memorial Bridge
Bismarck, ND

April 17, 2002 * 2:41 p.m.
Looking out on the Missouri River from the south side walkway, standing at the center of the bridge. The southern view from the bridge is no longer unobstructed -- support beams and construction equipment for the replacement bridge now block the view a bit. This is a rare panoramic view from a bridge that will soon cease to exist.

Missouri River Boat Launch
Bismarck, ND

April 23, 2002 * 2:02 p.m.
Located along the Bismarck side of the Missouri River between the I-94 bridge to the north and the railroad bridge to the south. The openness of the parking lot no longer exists. Today, a Lewis and Clark metal sculpture, a replica keelboat and an eagle hut are located in this area.

ND

December 1, 2002 * 4:08 p.m.
About 20 miles north of Bismarck on Highway 83, heading for Minot. At this point in the drive, you emerge from the top of a hill and look into a basin featuring small buttes to the west, a hill to the east and sky everywhere.

Highway 83 North
Lake Sakakawea-Lake Audubon

May 6, 2002 * 7:16 p.m.
This section of highway divides Lake Sakakawea and Lake Audubon. The Sakakawea side is out from the railroad tracks. The Audubon side is out from the transmission lines.
